Matatua (II)


Sydney Kelly (born Appledore 1879) was captain of the Matatua II from 1908 to 1910.
Reputedly had the tallest funnel of any ship in the world.

Matatua II was built at Belfast in 1904 by Workman, Clark & Co. and Lloyds Register list her details as follows:
Ships No. 114599, SteelTwinScSr, 6488 Tons, 448 feet long, 56.5 feet breadth, 30.6 feet depth. Built for Shaw Saville & Albion.
